EDITOR’S NOTE

Dear readers,

The publication of our Spring 2013 issue heralds the XII International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management (AIMAC), to be held at the Universidad de los Andes School of Management in Bogotá, Colombia, from 26 to 29 June 2013. Judging from the proposals received, we can look forward a very interesting conference in terms of research in arts management. Moreover, the organizing team, headed by Professor Jaime Ruiz-Gutierrez, promises an exciting program that will introduce us to the rich cultural offerings of Bogotá. The articles featured in this issue of he Journal illustrate the great diversity of research being carried out in the field of arts and cultural management, as well as attesting to IJAM’s international scope.

In the first article, Thorsten Hennig-Thurau and Stefan Fuchs of Germany and Mark B. Houston of the United States present an analytical model designed to determine the monetary value of motion pictures’ TV rights.

The British authors Roger Bennett and Rita Kottasz turn their attention to limited edition artworks, examining the different factors that motivate buyers to acquire such works.

Patrick Germain-Thomas looks at the contemporary dance market in France. He examines the intermediate market – that is, the exchanges that connect dance companies with theatres or festivals that include contemporary dance on their programs.

Next, Beatriz Plaza, Silke N. Haarich and Courtney N. Waldron propose a method for analyzing and measuring the impact of artworks on the number of tourists visiting an area. In particular, they discuss the case of Gernika, a town in the Basque Country of northern Spain associated with Picasso’s renowned painting Guernica.

Finally, in the Company Profile the South African author Thomas W. Thurner describes the survival strategies implemented by two museums in South Africa in an effort to adapt to social change following the end of apartheid.
